Skills for new technicians NY601 / A20
Summary
This course will provide a thorough grounding in the science technician profession and is suitable for those new to the role within a school or college. Through a range of intensive hands on sessions we will explore the necessary basic skills a science technicians needs to effectively prepare practical lessons.
The course is split into two three-day residential periods. The first part concentrates on core technical skills and includes sessions on health and safety, solutions and gas making, glass working, soldering, greenhouse science, microbiology, repairing equipment and working as a science technician.
The second residential period introduces further practical skills in chemistry, biology, physics and electronics with additional health and safety session on manual handling and fire safety.
This course includes an online component to extend and embed your CPD. It will provide you with support whilst back at school or college, and enable you to collaborate with others and to share experiences and resources. You will receive support to enable you to complete your action plan or gap task and you will also be able to access the online learning community after this period. The online component is an integral part of the course and has been included in the fee and the associated ENTHUSE Bursary. Normal terms and conditions apply.
This is a residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.

Outcomes
You will be able to:
- work towards successfully implementing the new skills and knowledge acquired on the course
- describe and apply policies, procedures and actions that will lead to an effective and efficient technical service
- describe and explain safety implications and how to address them
- understand the roles and responsibilities of a science technicians in education

Notes
