Royal Academy of Engineering: Support, ideas and resources to promote engineering for primary and secondary STEM teachers RE219 / D08
Summary
The training session is suitable for STEM teachers in both primary and secondary settings. It will explain how the Royal Academy of Engineering can support you in the delivery of STEM subjects through the Teacher Coordinator programme, led by one of the RAEng London Teacher Coordinators. We will explore a range of free resources which are available through the Royal Academy and in particular, evaluate the 'Code and Rescue' resource. Teachers from this existing network have already received their boxes so they will be feeding back and sharing their best practice. This activity box focuses on how engineers support emergency services and search and rescue missions. The resource is mapped against the primary and secondary curriculum and contains activities with maths, science, D&T and computer science focuses. Following the session, new members will receive the free resource box with a student and teacher guide plus the physical resources needed to carry out the activities with your students. There will be a follow up meeting two weeks later for feedback and sharing of best practice for new members of the network on 16/7 at 4.30pm.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- work collaboratively to identify priorities in science teaching and learning and in science-specific professional development for your teams
- share and develop strategies to tackle these issues, drawing on expertise as needed from outside the network
