Summary
This one-hour online course is designed for continuing professional development for teachers of A Level Chemistry looking to improve their subject knowledge and confidence in teaching chemistry, especially remotely.
Outcomes
Understanding the behaviour of weak acids and bases, explaining pH changes and explaining buffer solutions relies on a good understanding of dynamic equilibria. In this session we will explore:
- Principles of dynamic equilibria and models to illustrate it.
- The Equilibrium Law and equilibrium constants.
- Application of Le Chatelier’s Principal.
- Acid/Base equilibria. pH, Ka, Kw and pKa
- pH changes during titrations.
- The choice of indicators and theory behind them.
- Buffer solutions
Additionally, practical activities that use and apply these concepts will be highlighted. Resources will be provided for participants to download.
