Summary

This one-hour online course is designed for continuing professional development for teachers of GCSE chemistry looking to improve their subject knowledge and confidence in teaching chemistry, especially remotely.

Outcomes

The concept of dynamic equilibrium is a challenging one for students studying chemistry at GCSE. In this session we will explore:

  • What do students find difficult about this topic?
  • Examples of reversible reactions and some simple dynamic equilibria.
  • Models to illustrate the concept of a dynamic equilibrium and the position of equilibrium.
  • Le Chatelier’s Principle.
  • Examples of chemical equilibria – ammonia synthesis and esterification.
  • Equilibria in acid/bases systems – weak acids and bases.

Additionally, practical activities that use and apply these concepts will be highlighted. Resources will be provided for participants to download.
