The highly successful Science Learning Partnership Cumbria annual primary science conference is returning. It promises to be another unmissable CPD event designed to develop our young scientists.
Throughout the day there will be various new and informative workshops to choose from, including:
Working scientifically outdoors:
Effective teaching of scientific enquiry is central to developing children's ideas, skills, knowledge and understanding in science. You will be able to implement strategies for planning, resourcing and organizing a range of types of enquiry in order to improve children's outcomes.
Kitchen cupboard science:
What's lurking in your kitchen that you could transform easily and inexpensively into enthralling science activities which will transfix children and teach them vital skills and harness curiosity?
This workshop, carried out in our school laboratories, will give you plenty of practical, creative ideas that are easy to replicate back in the classroom - all with resources that you can obtain easily and that children will be very familiar with!
Explorify:
Wellcome’s free resource of engaging, creative science activities has been designed to spark curiosity, discussion and debate from video to hands-on activities, it’s easy to get Explorifying!
Find out how you can use Explorify to support the way you teach your Science lessons. Challenge your pupils to become ‘Scientists’.
Science through stories:
Children's stories provide a great context for learning science. Explore a range of popular children's books and discover the science hidden in them, from Little Red Riding Hood, set in a wood which makes a lovely starting point for finding out about habitats, to One Smart Fish by Christopher Wormell, which provides a meaningful context for learning about adaptations and evolution. Find out how these stories can support your science teaching and learning.
We will also be joined by a local company who specialise in fun virtual reality technology.
