Clinical chemistry RD710 / A01
Summary
This CPD will be delivered in collaboration with the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust (RCHT) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). It will enable teachers to link with health professionals to enhance subject knowledge, widen understanding of the technical concepts used in the industry and to develop an understanding of chemistry and STEM career pathways in the medical industry.
Teachers will be given an introduction to the day by Kate Teagle from the Learning and Development Team at RCHT with information about the ‘Get in Cornwall’ programme, before having the opportunity to go to a selection of labs - clinical chemistry, haematology, histopathology and microbiology - and meet with a range of professionals. The day will also feature an RSC session delivered by Kate Whetter, Education Coordinator for South West England.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- link the real-world STEM contexts to the curriculum and enhance schemes of learning with real-world examples to inspire students
- link STEM career pathways to learning to help students to make better decisions about career choices
- enhance subject knowledge and understanding through the sessions which will be led by industry specialists
- develop links with the sector that can be used by your school to deliver the curriculum and to enhance science capital
