Textile technicians: basic servicing and maintenance of sewing machines NV623 / A17

Start date
8 Nov 17
Duration
1 Day
Location
Coles Sewing Centre, 90 Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham NG1 1EH View on Google Map

Summary

This day is aimed at technicians who would like to be able to reduce department costs by being able to carry out basic servicing and maintenance of sewing machines. It might also be suitable for teachers who have no technician and who would like to be able to have a better understanding of how to maintain their machines in order to maximize their performance and quality output.

Participants will learn about common health and safety issues when using a sewing machine along with gaining a better understanding of how the correct use of tension, threads and needles can improve performance.

The day will include each participant stripping down a sewing machine, cleaning it and rebuilding it. Advice will also be given on how to keep machines running by cannibalising broken machines along with when to consider replacing a machine.

Participants will be asked to bring along a sewing machine from their department to work on which will make the course relevant to each school. This will also make it easier for participants to apply what they have learnt when they go back into school. A machine can be made available if bringing a machine is a problem.

The course will also include useful resources for participants to take away with them.

Take a look at this article (https://www.stem.org.uk/blog/does-your-sewing-machine-need-mot)  to see an example of the types of activities the day will involve.

Fees include meals and refreshments for the duration of the course. Course fees vary for participants outside the UK. Please contact enquiries@stem.org.uk for more information.
