Embryo freezing by vitrification HC521 / G01
Summary
This course is aimed at technical staff and students and provides a basic training in mouse embryo vitrification (freezing). It includes video footage, demonstrations and practical sessions presented by experienced technicians.
The course covers the preparation of the vitrification solution, handling IVF derived embryos, vitrifying embryos in plastic semen straws followed by thawing and assessing the embryos.
Participants will be handling liquid nitrogen in a safe environment and under close supervision. The course will close with a discussion on contemporary methods for exchanging embryos between collaborating institutions and a Q&A session.
Outcomes
The outcomes of this course are:
- to experience dissection of the female reproductive tract
- instruction in the preparation of an embryo vitrification solution
- to perform embryo handling and freezing
- to perform embryo thawing and safe handling
- demonstration on exchanging mouse strains using embryos only
