DNA and genomics at the National Botanic Garden of Wales NW701 / A16
Summary
This is a one day programme for AS/A level biology teachers providing an opportunity to find out about the latest advances in genomics at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. The Garden led the project that made Wales the first nation in the world to DNA barcode all of its native flowering plants and currently uses a wide range of genomics approaches for research in biodiversity conservation and human health.
You'll listen to talks and participate in discussion relating to DNA and its function, DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing and genomic technologies. Consider how these technologies are used now and possibilities for the future.
An excellent chance to visit the National Botanic Garden of Wales’ genomics research labs and see first hand how genomics research is conducted.

You will be able to:
- explore cutting edge applications of DNA barcoding and genomics
- describe cutting edge technologies and their applications within the curriculum
- use a range of resources to support learning and teaching
