Summary

Science has a generally excellent safety record in schools and colleges, but good, effective health and safety planning is essential. A pragmatic, risk based approach needs to be taken, based on evidence and with the cooperation of all staff and students.

This course, aimed at Heads of Department, senior technicians and experienced teachers, will develop the skills to both audit, plan and implement coherent practical health and safety in your science department. Hands-on practical work will enable participants to further understand the processes of good risk management, as well as focussing in on areas such as teaching space management, the prep rooms and stores, as well as going outside of the lab. There is also support post-course, to help participants with implementing good practice in their department.

This is a residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course. Course fees vary for participants outside the UK. Please contact enquiries@stem.org.uk for more information.
