Summary

Are you a teaching assistant working with a science department or are you working with TA’s in science? If yes, this course is suitable for you and your team to improve science practical skills to support TA’s working more effectively with students.

Often teaching assistants have to work across departments and may not always have the practical skills we take for granted to work safely with students in science.

Designed to give teaching assistants an overview of practical work in science and the skills and knowledge to carry out basic science practical work. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore standard school science equipment and core practicals from KS3 and 4 across all subjects.

Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • feel more confident in using science equipment
  • support students more effectively with their practical work and learning
  • explore practical work ideas and its importance
  • describe health and safety issues and be able to carry out practical work safely
  • investigate how to support SEN students with their practicals
