Help needed on 20 June: iSTEM+ workshop for East Midlands Employment & Skills Summit
I am looking for someone with practical experience of iSTEM+ to join me at the annual Employment & Skills Summit held by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce on 20 June 2017 at Loughborough University (http://www.emc-dnl.co.uk/events/9269/employment-and-skills-summit-2017).
I have been discussing iSTEM+ with the local Chamber in my role as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Schools Liaison Officer (SLO) for Derbyshire and been offered the chance to run a workshop and have a stand at the summit. This is a fabulous opportunity to put the word out to influencers across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
I have no personal experience of iSTEM+ (other than reading about it) and would very much welcome somebody along to join me. I have pitched the 20 minute workshop as follows:
iSTEM+ (Integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and More)
At school STEM is typically treated as separate subjects. In the outside world, real-life scientific and technological opportunities and challenges simply do not slot neatly into these categories. Join this workshop to find out how the iSTEM+ framework supports practical activity and project work to develop students’ problem-solving and other 21st-century personal skills. A case study will illustrate how clusters of ‘Skilful Schools’ (primary, secondary, post-16) can work together with employers to integrate STEM-related subjects across the curriculum through inspiring inter-disciplinary group projects (and more!).
