Fit for the Future: a proposal for an initiative to re-tool and up-skill schools to respond to STEM and digital skills demands

The Government has policies in place for Growth, Industry, Trade and Digital strategies, all of which depend on having a skilled 21stC workforce.  Post-Brexit it is even more important that we develop these skills with students currently in school education 5-19.  As we know, many students make up their minds about future interests well before making GCSE options, so schools must inspire students at KS2 and KS3 about the technological world in which we live, and prepare them to play their full part in it.  We have yet to hear any skills policy (STEM, digital or employability) for this age range from the |Department for Education - but it is well overdue.  In the light of current discussion about school funding it is imperative that schools are equipped with the necessary tools and skills to undertake this vital task.  The attached document outlines a strategy which we hope the Government, as well as organisations such as the Local Enterprise Partnerships, will adopt.
