Non-transitive dice in Core Maths lessons

In the ‘Champion of the world’ resource, Core Maths students are challenged to beat their teacher in a game involving dice. However the dice involved are no ordinary dice…

Here are the National STEM Learning Centre, we are lucky enough to have a set of non-transitive dice. You can find out more about these ‘curious’ dice here and also in this YouTube video featuring James “Grime Dice” Grime.

The resource above invites an exploration of probability and sample-spaces. Can students figure out how the game is rigged?

This resource, and many more, can be found in our Core Maths resource pages: www.stem.org.uk/core-maths/resources
