The student experience and the colossal impact of Technical Professionals

Well, £9, 000 fees and what do students think? Are they getting value for money and great services? Technical Professionals probably have more contact time with students than any other group in the HE sector. We have vast experience, skills and knowledge in working with our partner students.

How can we turn this into our advantage and get the recognition so rightly deserved? What Professional Development issues arise as a result. How should individuals and the community be recognised? What accreditation routes ought to be obligatory and how can HR/OD and Staff Development help?

Let's get the debate going about recognition, qualifications and accreditation and the student interface.

Also, we will be staging our next meeting in the new academic year. Is this a possible theme or might there be others higher up the agenda (I personally think not). How might we shape our next SE meeting?

Please invite colleagues to comment and spread the word. We can get increased value from HEaTED membership but better still start to engage all of our Technical Professionals in engaging and learning more than ever in this fast changing climate . We could do some really interesting work arounfd shared experiences regarding the student agenda! It starts here!

Have a good summer folks!

Matt

The professionalsim and experience that we have has been kept quiet for too long. I feel that we have come a long way from the days of just sitting on the sidelines in laboratories we now play an integral part on the teaching team. I feel very strongly about this and I am working very hard with my technician and to gain the recognition for the teaching support that we do. We are lucky in the fact that our University (Greenwich) is allowing us to apply for Associate fellowship in its version of the UK Professionals framework. This recognises the roles of teaching and supporting learning within the HE environment and sits it into a recognised framework of standards in the HE sector.

I think that this is an important issue for us all & would welcome it as an item at our next meeting.

LynnThanks for your comments and I am pleased to see that like me you are passionate about this. We must include in the next meeting and start to engage colleagues in the discussion
