Chemical Inventory

Hi all

Does anyone have any experience of using a inventory for chemical inventories?  We'd like to use an inventory for: H&S reasons so that the University is aware of what is on site, for working towards accreditation and for stock control and locations of items.

We are currently trialing LabCup, but finding it very frustratring. Can anyone comment of the usefulness/ease of use of LabCup?

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I have never heard of Lab cup and cant comment on the use of the system.

Here in St Andrews, we are in the process of setting up, Quartzy, it is a free web based system and very easy to use.

Have a look at the system on the net.

Best of luck,

Ashley

I use an open source system called DaDaBik (http://www.dadabik.org/) This is a web based front end for a MySQL database and I have all the chemicals in my school listed as well as safety, location and other relevent details. If you want more info regarding set up etc. please get in touch.

Cheers

Hi Rachel,

I am in charge of the chemical inventory of the Chemistry Dept at Imperial College. We use a system called SciQuest Enterprise Reagent Manager. It is a really good system for large departments. And as it allows you to barcode all bottles it keeps a good solid and reliable database as well as allowing you to track chemicals through sublocations. It is a commercial solution though so you would need investment from your university. As it is by Sciquest we have also managed to link it with sciquest marketplace and our purchasing system so all chemical purchases are automatically added onto the system.

In the free catagory I have seen Quartzy used to good effect. But it is probably only suitable to smaller departments with less of a chemical stockpile.

If you have any further questions, want to see Sciquest or need advice please feel free to email me on d.box@imperial.ac.UK
