Professional Registration

The Staff Development Department of the University of Strathclyde have set aside a budget to pay for technical staff to apply for Professional Registration.

What are members' thoughts on this initiative?

I see this as a positive step with Strathclyde acknowledging the needs of technical staff for further development.

However professional registration, whilst a boost to the individual, is still not well enough known about within employers and until it becomes much more widespread and an ‘expected requirement’ I don’t see it really making a difference.

Hi Val

I think Edinburgh University should do the same, regarding funding allocation. However I do agree with Fiona, that Employers such as the University Sector, should be made more aware of the benefits of having Profesional registered technical staff, and in doing so will willingly support staff with both a budget requirement, and allocation of time.

As always, you have my full support, and any initiative is welcome.

I hope you have an informative and beneficial Regional Network Coordinators meeting on 1st August in York. I have no suggestions on course subjects just now, but If anything, I would welcome further H&S courses.

Best

Neil
