I hope that we can follow up Kelly's suggestion (below) re comments in response to her Guardian article.
Perhaps as important is to draw in as many of our technician colleagues and contacts into the key issues that she has outlined. There can be very little doubt that the link has been made between technical skills /infrastructure and the UK's economic recovery is being heralded by senior politicians and in the media. This presents a valuable opportunity for establishing a solid professional foundation for technical and allied people on a par with other professional groups.

Hi all,
Huge thanks for the kind comments and e-mails. I know that the Guardian are aware of the issues facing technical staff in HE and are keen to ensure we have a presence in their Higher Education Network. What would be really helpful would be if you could comment on the Guardian story under the comments section on the article's webpage in order to keep the dialogue going and show that this is topical. If they see that there is interest in this topic it increases our chances of follow up features etc. We are up against it to an extent as academics (as the main readers of the HE Network) are less likely to comment on a feature about technicians and so it would be great if the technical community can use their voice here......you never know who is reading and what influence we can have!
Many thanks,
Kelly
