I have booked for this event

Just wondered who else was going to make it?

Do we have an agenda yet at all?

I would like to mention that at Lboro we had the first University Technician Conference in Feb 2014.

There seems to be more of a lead with noting the work that techs do.

Main concern is where is all this heading without substantial funding for courses and training.

I am a specialist in Psychology and have a Fellow of HEA and Graduate Member of BPS, but still find I am creeping into IT work.

We have yearly PDRs which try and identify areas of opportunities but again where is the money?

Hi Peter,

Glad you are getting somewhere at Loughborough.

We are struggling a little with the agenda but we are hoping to have it updated later today to include discussion on Technicians and teaching and also there is a strong possibility of an optional tour of the NTU arts facilities afterwards.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Steve

I will be going too.

I have also highlighted the problems of tecnicians lack of recognition via MyRSC,. Since New year we  have lost 4 technicians from our departmentand 2 have been replaced so far.

Bottom line is poor pay and lack of progression within department.

Hay scheme in place re HR issues but impossible to get upgrades contribution points and  big bone of contention as regaeds as getting on.

Would like to know how other departemnt sin other Universities cope with staff retention.

Hi Andy,

Nice to catch up with you yesterday at NTU.

Retention is a problem for many of us. I'm about to lose a technician after 43 years of service which adds the problem of succession as well.

I hope that the notions of professional registration and increased training and recognition of the value of technicians will help in both retention and succession problems. Time will tell.
