GAIM Activities: Investigations
GAIM - Graded Assessment in Mathematics- is a teacher assessment scheme designed for 11-16 year olds. Created between 1983 and 1991, the activities aimed to introduce continuous assessment into normal classroom practice.
The GAIM materials include a total of eighty activities (40 Investigations and 40 Practical Problems).
‘GAIM Investigations’ involve students in exploring the pure aspects of mathematics. They provide the opportunity for students to develop their own systems for generating results and to identify, express and justify any patterns they obtain.
The resources actively encourage learning through practical problem solving and investigations; the detailed teacher guidance provides addition support and a framework that can be used for teacher assessment throughout the secondary school curriculum.
