Rethink Your Drink / Snack

I've created a display showing the amount of sugar in popular soft drinks and snacks in my school.  Images of the drinks are accompanied by bags of sugar accurately weighed out.  Its a very powerful display, the students are amazed at the amount of sugar in their favourite drinks/snacks.

This display is reinforced by an assembly which I do as part of healthy eating week, showing the amount of sugar in drinks and discussing the amount of exercise needed to burn off the energy.  I also show them how these drinks are cleverly marketed to maximise sales, Redbull is a good example of this.

In class we use this as a starting point to discuss healthy hydration.  The students then create infomercials to encourage their peers to choose drinks wisely, we show the best ones on the digital displays around school.

I also have an exact copy of this display (not attached to the wall!) and the students match the drinks to the sugar as a starter activity.  I've also used this as an open evening activity.
